    Medtronic France has withdrawn from the market on August 02, 2006 all medical devices called "Midas Rex Classic, GS and Legend" whose lot number (02/08/2006) (15 KB) is not underlined on the label, following complaints about brittle packaging. This withdrawal is the second phase of the voluntary recall started in September 2005 .. The company has directly notified the recipients of the incriminated lots with the message attached (02/08/2006) (72 KB) validated by Afssaps .. This information is addressed to the directors of health establishments and the local correspondents of materiovigilance for diffusion, if necessary to the services concerned. The relevant European Competent Authorities are informed of this measure by the manufacturer.

    “If our surveillance systems identify a potential performance issue, our personnel promptly evaluate the problem, including, when appropriate, conducting root cause investigations and internal testing to assess whether the product continues to meet specifications and defined performance criteria,” Medtronic told ICIJ in a statement. “In some cases, based on this evaluation, Medtronic may determine that a recall is necessary.” The company said that it communicates with healthcare providers and/or patients and provide recommendations to address such issues. Medtronic noted that these communications can include letters, emails, calls, press releases, physician notifications and social media postings, as well as informing the FDA and other regulators of the actions.
